The Video Platform Provides The Community Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Personal Streams

The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to lessen the volume of AI-made content appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the service announced that it now features more than 1 billion content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The update is being tested over the next few weeks before a widespread release. This development coincides with a increase in AI content, fueled by emerging content generation software.

AI Proliferation Online

It has been noted that approximately one in 10 of the fastest-growing video streams on a popular video site primarily display AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this material is classified as “AI slop”, a term for substandard, factory-style content that is frequently illogical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users enjoy content made with AI tools, from digital art to educational videos, and we intend to offer the community the option to see more or less of that, according to their own choices,” said a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The platform shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its app tagged as artificially created. Overall, more than 100 m videos are submitted to the service daily, making clips made by AI a relatively small portion of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Users will be able to reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they view by accessing the content preference feature in the app and picking “AI-generated content”. Other topics that currently be adjusted under the tool cover current affairs, style, aesthetics, and movement.

Platform Guidelines

Its rules oblige users to identify convincing artificially created content, and it prohibits malicious fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any authentic-looking AI video that is unmarked can be removed under its terms of service.

Additionally, the service will now apply an “AI-made” tag to content made using its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an cross-platform project for recognizing AI-generated material. This step is intended to help prevent users from trying to bypass the tagging system.

Educational Initiatives

TikTok is also establishing a $2m awareness program for experts and organizations to produce learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will benefit educational bodies focused on training coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The platform has justified its content review process, following debate over intentions to cut jobs for numerous content moderators in the UK. It is expected to reduce hundreds of positions in its user protection team in London, with worker representatives and internet security professionals raising concerns that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A senior executive explained that people-led review would continue to be important, but automated tools can safeguard staff by filtering out the most graphic content prior to it is viewed by humans. The company stated a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content reviewed by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to intervention by its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to integrate humans and technology to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to unsafe media as rapidly, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is really helping us operate efficiently.”
